MPA's fun Summer Art Camps

Live Vicariously Through Your Kids:  MPA's fun Summer Art Camps start NEXT WEEK, June 28! Even though adults can't attend our Summer Art Camps, you can at least enjoy the Friday art shows for parents and siblings of campers.
 
Fun, creative week-long sessions for children ages 6-8 (morning sessions) and 8-11 (afternoon sessions) are held at the McLean Community Center. Rising 3rd-graders may choose morning or afternoon sessions. Tuition is $150 per week/$135 McLean district residents; Tuition for Week 2 is $125/$110 McLean district residents. All materials will be provided. Please bring a snack and a painting smock or an old oversized shirt.  Parents and siblings are invited to an art show to be held during the last 20 minutes of class each Friday.

June 28 - July 2:
Colorfields (Morning) For kids who love to paint!  Dripping and drawing, painting and collaging create beautiful fileds of color and texture. With Eric Swanson
3-D Art Adventures (Afternoon)  Learn how to create in 3-D!  This is a great companion camp to Claymation offered later in the Summer.  With Eric Swanson
 
July 6 - 9:
Animals in Art (Morning)  Draw and paint animals -- real and imaginary.  Explore line, form, perspective, motion and more while creating artworks featuring favorite animals.  With Anthony Brock
Drawing (Afternoon) Using pencils, pastels, charcoal and ink, campers will learn ways to achieve new levels of realism in their work. With Anthony Brock.
 
July 12 - 16:
Kaleidoscope of Art (Morning)  Create bold colorful art projects using beads, feathers, paint, papers and more while learning about color compostion and problem solving. With Mike Cantwell
Drawing and Painting with Color (Afternoon)  Boldly experiment with color!  Learn about color mixing, color relationships and the psychology of color.  With Mike Cantwell
 
July 19 - 23:
Under the Sea (Morning)  Explore the beautiful, exotic and sometimes scary creatures of the sea using a variety of media.  With Mike Cantwell
Flip Out! (Afternoon)  For the comic and cartooning lover. Create flip books and learn new techniques of animation and storyboarding.  With Mike Cantwell
 
July 26 - 30:
Art Through Time (Morning) Take a quick trip through history from early cave painting all the way to the present.  Have fun creating in the styles of the artists and cultures before us.  With Eric Swanson
Claymation (Afternoon)  Create a claymation DVD!  Learn storyboarding, set building and work in groups to create your movie.  With Eric Swanson
 
August 2 - 6:
Modern Masters (Morning)  Create artwork influenced by the style of artists such as Matisse, Calder and Picasso.  With Mike Cantwell
Abstracting From Nature (Afternoon) For the nature lover! Discover the beauty of natural materials examined very closely.  Use a variety of materials to create works of art influenced by the observations.

August 9 - 13:
Me, Myself & I (Morning and Afternoon sessions)  Learn about the many styles of portraiture by creating self-portraits and portraits of family, friends and even pets.  With Barbara Januskiewicz
 
So while you are slaving away behind the desk or in front of the washing machine (or both), let the kids do what you wish you were doing.  Remember, there's always the Friday art show!
