Virginia Chamber Orchestra, Emil de Cou, Music Director, presents Baroque to Jazz program Available at door: adults, $20; seniors, $18 VIRGINIA CHAMBER ORCHESTRA BAROQUE TO JAZZ CONCERT SHOWCASES WIDE VARIETY OF MUSICAL STYLES Grieg’s Holberg Suite Is Featured Work Music Director Emil de Cou and the Virginia Chamber Orchestra will showcase a wide variety of music, from Baroque and neoclassical works to romantic and jazz selections, in a Baroque to Jazz program on Sunday, February 19th, at 4 P.M. The venue will be the Ernst Community Cultural Center on the Annandale Campus of the Northern Virginia Community College. Edvard Grieg’s Holberg Suite, originally titled “From Holberg’s Time,” will be the featured work. Composed in 1884 to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the birth of Danish-Norwegian playwright Ludvig Holberg, it is subtitled “Suite in the olden style.” The introduction is followed by a delightful series of neoclassical dance movements reflecting what was known about the music of Holberg’s era during Grieg’s lifetime.
