Julie Hart and Charla Wilkerson are the Featured Associate Artists for the month of February. They are presenting an exhibition, titled Rescued!, dedicated to rescued dogs and cats. Their work can be viewed in the Vulcan Gallery, located in Gallery W-16 at the Workhouse Arts Center.
"The purpose of this series is to tell rescued animals’ stories and to promote animal rescue," explains artist Julie hart about her work. Ms. Hart finds her subject matter when she volunteers at animal adoption events or from friends that have adopted rescue animals. Some of the animals she paints are blind or injured from their prior lives, but that doesn’t stop them from enjoying life.
Ms. Hart goes on to say, "Our society is pet crazy, while at the same time, so many pets are neglected and abandoned. The goal of this exhibition is to raise awareness and funds to help shelter animals find homes."

A portion of the sales go to local animal rescue organizations and continue to foster dogs until they find forever homes. The Workhouse Arts Center is located at 9601 Ox Road in Lorton, Virginia 22079. The gallery hours are Wednesday - Saturday from 11:00am - 7:00pm, Sunday from 12:00pm - 5:00pm, and closed on Monday and Tuesday.
