New Artists

We accept applications all year round. If you are an artist or artist group and would like to participate in our CAPs program, the first step is to fill out the audition form. Live auditions are held at the Alan Leis Instructional Center in a classroom environment and each artist is given ten (10) minutes for her/his presentation. You will be reviewed by a panel. If you can't make the live audition date, we will review your application online (2 videos required). You will be notified about your audition status no more than one week after the audition process.

Online-Audition Date: Friday May 11, 2012

Live-Audition Date: Saturday, September 1, 2012; 9:00AM
Location: Alan Leis Instructional Center, 7423 Camp Alger Avenue, Falls Church, Virginia 22042

Fees

We no longer charge audition fees. It is free to sign up for an audition.

What To Audition

For your audition, select a short segment of your production/program which demonstrates a brief outline of your selected program, artistic quality, production values and examples of language and/or music. Bring any appropriate handouts that are a regular part of your program. Auditions are limited to ten (10) minutes. There is space at the audition site to preset any props– so arrive early if you need to so that set-up and take-down time does not interfere with your audition time before the Panel. Because of the volume of inquiries, there will be a limited number of time slots available. Web auditions require online video materials (max 10 minutes) in addition to the application form.

Artistic Review Panel

The CAPs Artistic Review Panel is comprised of the Arts Council staff and professionals in the arts, education and business fields. The review will be based on the artist profile and the live presentation or review of online materials, as appropriate. You will be notified about your audition status no more than one week after the audition process.

Note: All who audition should be prepared, if selected for CAPs, to exhibit and perform/present at the CAPs Showcases and Exhibitions to be held each year in the spring and the fall.
